Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI or a mix. Hive runs their standalone command-line tools on your own plans; they aren't included with Hive, and the copies inside VS Code (or Cursor) extensions aren't used. Install Claude Code, Codex or the GitHub Copilot CLI yourself, or let Hive's Agent Setup do it. Any Copilot plan includes the CLI; Copilot Free runs the Auto model only.
- Git (optional), for the Git tab, worktrees and merging.
Installing
- Run
Hive-Setup-0.8.0.exe. - Turn on the coding agents you use in Settings → Providers (the banner at the top links there). A new install starts with them all off.
- Help → Agent Setup… finds each CLI, offers a one-click install if one is missing, and walks you through signing in. For Codex, it also starts the one-time Windows sandbox setup; for GitHub Copilot, it says which sign-in Copilot uses.
- Open or create a workspace (any folder whose subfolders are your projects) and add an agent. The User Guide walks you through it.
Windows SmartScreen. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may say it protected your PC. Choose More info → Run anyway. Updates installed from inside Hive are checked against their published checksum.
Updates
Hive checks its GitHub releases shortly after starting and every six hours, downloads new versions in the background, and installs them the next time you quit. It never restarts on its own, so your agents are never interrupted. You can check, download and install by hand in Settings → Updates, or opt in to pre-releases.
Updating to 0.5? Hive becomes Hive Desktop. The update renames the Start menu and desktop shortcuts; nothing else moves, and your settings and conversations stay where they were.
Updating from 0.1? Projects start with no agents in 0.2, so the update clears each project's agents. Your sessions stay in the Sessions tab, ready to resume with an agent you add again.
